Located on an acre of land with a private beach right on the Carribean coast of Mexico, Habitas Tulum is a brand new Eco-resort hotel by the Habitas group that has been designed to blend naturally into the surrounding jungle whilst leaving as minimal a footprint as possible.
Habitas, located in the luxe-hippie beach town of Tulum on Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula in an acre of jungle set back from the hotel’s own private beach. 32 guest rooms are broken up into five oceanfront suites, and 17 more closer to the jungle.
All of the rooms have a king-sized bed and are decorated with a bohemian touch, including wood furnishings and colourful textiles. Luxuries include air-con and homemade bath products which use ingredients such as coconut, avocado and honey. The rooms are constructed with indigenous materials, like natural palapa roofs and pale cloth walls, which open to private terraces and outdoor showers.
At the centre of the property is the resorts only permanent structure, three-storey glass structure, which serves as a hub for the community and includes a Moorish-style restaurant, a mezzanine and a rooftop deck where you can relax and watch the sun go down each night over some cocktails.
Scattered across the rest of the site are a variety of lounging areas with long, communal tables made of reclaimed wood, and other areas that have been carefully decorated with colourful pillows and low tables.
If relaxing by the pool is not your thing, the resort organises regular activities to keep you entertained such as jungle courtyard cinema, regular parties, concert series and early morning Ashtanga yoga classes. To cap things off there is an onsite wellness area which offers reiki, massage and facial treatments.
Located around 130km (80 miles) south of Cancun on Mexico's Riviera Maya, Tulum is a popular resort destination for nature-seekers and is flourishing with boutique eco-hotels. It is set near the ancient Mayan city (by the same name) in southwestern Mexico, and it is one of the country’s most beautiful archaeological sites.
Tulum is located on the east coast of Mexico (about 2 hours south of Cancun). The closest major airport to Tulum is the Cancun International Airport. There is not a huge amount of public transport in the area, so you'll either need to hire your own car or organise a shuttle bus with the hotel.
